Default Paint Your Own Rims

The only thing I'm not in love with about my Kodiak are the black rims. Metal colors look so much better to me. Is the factory black paint a baked-on finish? I'm wondering if I paint them myself how they would hold up compared to the factory paint. Is there anyone out there who has painted their own rims and can offer advice before I take the leap?

not on 4-wheeler but my buddy on his car painted them and they look pretty d#mn good!! he just rought them up went to hardware store and asked the guy what kinda spray paint to use.... now on a atv you have to worry about the mud pressure washer and all that good stuff so i am not sure but i would give it a try!

The paint that comes on them is baked on, and might even be specifically designed to withstand all the stuff wheels have to go through. If you use regular spray paint, the biggest problem you'll probably come across is the paint wearing/chipping off right on the edge. It depends on how you ride, what the riding conditions are, etc. You'll have to use your own judgement on this one. Or get them powdercoated and then you know it'll hold up.

Decisions, decisions. If I don't like the results I'll have to spend a lot of money for new rims. It's always something. I guess I'll test it out on a piece of metal, bang it around for awhile, see how it looks and go from there.

You're assuming "trout" is referring to a fish.

i painted my rims on my warrior to match the brass color the front rims are, because the rear ones were rusted...just wire wheel them good, prime them good, and use at LEAST 2 coats of paint and i'd say you are good. It has been a year, alotta mud, and alotta washing, and the brass paint hasnt changed a bit.
