The 58hp of the stock, quick-revving yz426 sure would be sweet on a quad.

The profile and weight of the yz426 would surely make for a dominating racer.

The hp for the 426 is 47-48 hp. It is also a very high strung engine.

In fact, no other header/silencer makes more peak horsepower than the stock one, says something about it from the factory.

Just wait until the aftermarket guys get 'inside' this 660. It will be scary....

From the early reviews of the Raptor, I was led to believe that it would be the fastest quad ever produced. Not even...but then again that's advertisement for you. Great quad, but doesn't blow away the DS650, which was my second choice.

i also raced motocross for 13 years. i just gave it up and bought a raptor and at first thought it was down on power but after learnign how to ride it the way it needs to be rode, i think it is very fast. This machine is very smooth! motocross bikes are a different breed all together and it is not fare to compare them to quads. as far as the ds650 comment, my raptor blows away 3 of them time and time again, and when it comes to fast trails, the ds650 looks like a pinball bouncing off trees in the woods. But then again the ds is the size of a sorts car
Lets face it, the raptor is the best high performance quad on the market!!

At first I thought it was not all that quick. Then the more I LEARNED where and how the power comes on the more I like it. I get bored easily with what power I have then modify my toys. So far with the raptor I have a white bros slip-on and air filter. Also have two 1" vents in the lid of the carb box and the air mixture screws 4 turns out to slight richen it. I tell you that it can take my buddies raptor by two or three bikes. Keeping in mind he is heavier that me but it still flys. As far as the "tall" gearing goes, it just makes me faster through the trails since you have to be moving to use 2nd and 3rd gears in the tight areas. I think eventually the big bore is in line for me but for now I would not trade this bike for any other
just my opinion though

have fun

If you compare the Raptor with a yzf426, it will sure be underpowered. The YZF is lighter, more powerful and is much more rigid. They couldn't have done that on the Raptor (it's supposed to be used on trails also).
Yes ATVs feel underpowered when compared to bikes.

i think yamaha made a good choice when releasing the raptor...becuase they knew that there are less racers that see that the yz426 would make a better racer than people who see BIG ENGINE=FAST QUAD. i think yamaha still should put the yz engine in a quad though..then they would have every single spot covered in their quad market. that guy that said the yzf250 was gonna replace the raptor the yzf is the fourstroke eninge right?? if so then that sucks they need to put the 250 2 stroke in a quad to replace the blaster.

the 426 weighs 258,i think my friends ride them and i'll have one soon . if i can get this raptor paid off. i was slightly dissapointed on the power to i sold a macked out, every thing on the market haveing, hard to start 310r to get the raptor. the r would blow it away in motocross and drag but was a pain to start, and 114 octane cost to much . but the raptor will be up to par sone, i just spent $2000.00 on a-arms,axel,shocks,nerfs.bumper,graphics, and handlebars . so ill have to save up some more ,yoshi said there new pipe would be available next week and their numbers sound good at 3500,5500,8500rpm. %20.%11,%30 more $510.00
