rebuilding the warrior
#2
Ive had 2 Warriors with this kit from JE. In my opinion, its the best way to go for more power and still keep your reliability for the least amount of money.
I never had any problems with either bike because of this kit. Why do you say you "might" have to rebuild soon?

i might have to rebuild it because i was at the dunes and i noticed the timing chain was loose. it later started loosing power and was putting out blue smoke. so i figured i would pull the top end and if i needed to have it bored out i would look into the 366 kit

Yeah, if the smoke was from burning oil its probably just the rings are worn out or the valve seals are leaking. You might could get off real cheap by just putting new rings in. But hey, while youre in there you might as well go ahead and give it some more power!

You can get them from just about anywhere. I got mine from my local Yamaha dealer, or you can order them from Vito's(vitosperformance.com), or from World Class ATV(dirt-deals.com). Their kits are $175 and you probably want the 10.5:1 compression and not the 12:1 so you wont have to run race gas.

would i have to run premium gas with the 10.5:1 compression kit?
and is having higher compression worth having to run higher octane

Yeah, it's worth it. You'll just have to run premium pump fuel, but it's worth it for the gain you get with the high compression piston. Aside from the additional hp and torque, the engine also revs a lot quicker because the aftermarket pistons are lighter than stock.
Personally, I don't really like the idea of the 366 kits though. I'd rather get a high compression pistion with the smallest overbore possible. 366 is going right to the maximum bore on the stock sleeve. So the next time it needs rebuilt, and a simple hone isn't enough to get a good clean piston wall, you'll need to re-sleeve. I don't think that's worth it for the few cc's you gain. You're talking maybe .2-.5 hp from an overbore like that.

Yes its worth it. Ive always ran premium in all my bikes, even without high compression pistons. Youre only talking about a few more dollars on a small 4-wheeler. The other guys right about the 366 kit. 366 is punched out to the max. If you blow it up, you have to get the cylinder resleeved, which will set you back another $150 or more. Just dont blow it up!
