What year is this
#1
I am trying to determine what year a yamaha kodiak 400 4x4 is, the owner thanks it is newer than 1998 and I am thinking that it is around a 95. The head lights are real close together and it is dark green. I have the vin number but I havent been able to find a way to cross check it. On the hondas I have messed with they had a tag stating what the model# and what year it is on the frame. I am considering buying it, it will needs some parts so I need to find exactly what year it is. Is there a vin cross refeence chart somewhere that I can have a look at. Thanks

Well I hope that I am not double posting, I replied last night but it appears that I didnt hit reply, The headlights are round and close together and the 10th digit is a W on the vin #. I went ahead and purchased this machine, it appears that the previous owner did very little maintance, it had been sitting for along time and I had to clean out the carb but it still falls on its face if you open up the throttle too fast before the rpm's can catch up.
It needs a front wheel bearing or something becasue the wheel wobbles when it is lifted off the ground, I was hoping that it was a spindle nut loose but it wasnt. thanks for the replies

Thanks,
Any ideas on where to check on the machine or what to do to help the throttle response. It will accererate up to high rpm's but slowly, if you crack it open it bogs out then recovers after you return the throttle lever. I am still thinking carb because it was full of gunk and it looks like someone used there mix gas in it last because it was blue tinted. Starts but you have to pull choke full let it hit then it dies then push the choke all the way in and it starts up on the next try. If its the carb is there any particular area I need to focus on.
