SAE 80 Hypoid API GL-4 vs SAE 80W90 Hypoid API GL-4
#1
Hi guys. I checked the diffs on the new Grizz 700 yesterday and the were low (damn Stealers....I mean Dealers). Anyway the manual says to fill the diffs with SAE 80 API GL-4 Hypoid gear oil. Well long story short I cannot fin ANY of that stuff in town! I stoped at 5 different auto parts stores.....the Yamaha dealer did not even have it!!! The only thing they had was some Honda Shaft Drive Oil SAE 80W90 Hypoid gear oil. Will this work in the diffs of the Grizz? They guys at the parts counter call the service depatment and they said it would, but I want a sencond opinion. Please advise!!

My Yamaha dealer had the correct Yamalube in stock. Price was $7.19 per quart and will easily do front and rear and maybe even both twice. By having the reciept for Yamaha lube this is sufficient proof that I am complying with required services in case of failure. The rear diff lube gets contaminated quickly and needs correct on time service.

Check out this stuff. It will work for your quads diff. Meets all the specs, API GL-5 which is one step higher than GL-4 (kinda like brake fluid). It will NOT void your warranty either. It is a bit more expensive intitially but it will protect your quad better than any other lubes.

Personally I use the Yamaha fluid.
Unless you need to do it immediately why not have the dealer get you the correct Yamalube 80w GL4?
I just did all my fluids today and my rear diff was very low and there are no leaks. So much for the dealer checking the fluids before delivery. My quad only has about 100 miles on it..

I will call the other dealer tomorrow. When I asked them about the oil they told me they had never heard of it and the mechanics use the 80W90 in thier machines....personally I think they are full of $hit. I just don't know where in town I can get it....I have called everyone. Who could I special order it from? I agree I would rather use the Yamaha fluid....

Thanks but none of the Yamaha dealers in this town have it!! Is there a place online to order it?
