Well I am in my in my fifth month with the new Grizzly and I am still delighted. I performed the maintenance that was required at 200 miles without any problems. At 1500 miles I performed the required maintenance and that also went well. The Service manual has many errors that call for tasks to be performed that cannot not be done. (eg lubricate the drive shaft universal joints.) The valves were in spec. The rear oil was dirty and I was happy to change it. The rear oil drain plug was stuck, but it finally came out. Belt was fine. I also installed the winch myself with minimal problems. The dealer did not have the mounting plate, so I made my own.

I now have 2250 miles and going strong.

My riding habits are some what mild. I am not afraid to take it up to 60 MPH, but usually travel about in the 20-30 MPH range. I explore the Arizona deserts at reasonable speeds. Dust is a problem for us in Arizona and I clean the air filter about every 300 miles. I usually get about 115 miles to a tank of gas. Of course a dirty air filter drops this quickly.

Tire wear is OK. Looks like I will get about 4000 miles from the rear tires. Front tires will probably go twice as far.

It appears that I have about the most miles on this machine as I look through the forums and would be pleased to share my experiences.

Grizz,

I appreciate your update. I don't have near that many miles on mine, due to work and cold weather, but this spring I plan to ride it a lot!
I was wondering about mounting my own winch and I appreciate the news on the gear oil, as I have an 02 as well as an 07 Grizz and I have never changed the gear oil on my 02.

Glad you enjoy the machine and keep those updates coming.

God Bless,

Wyomingboy

For the Differential and Rear oil I use Valvoline 80 w 90w Hypoid gear oil. Hypoid gear oil has anti-scuffing additives. Hypoid gears have a sliding action. This is available at Auto motive stores. It should be API GL-4 or better. This is the same as used on auto differentials.

Mounting the winch was pretty straigt forward. I shortened the yellow and blue wires. I cut to length and removed the unused connector and recrimped. I made my own plate, but would recommend using Yamaha's. I used their (blue ) splicing connector to get to the wire coming from main switch. This ie easy to get to. I wanted the control circuit to be energized only when key is on. The winch can pull high amps and drain battery quick. Always run winch with motor running.

Hope this helps.
