why wont warrior start? HELP!!!
#1
I am looking to buy a 1988 or 1989 yamaha warrior... Without knowing anything about it is there any common problems as to why the atv wont start.. the electric start cranks and cranks but the bike wont fire over..Like i said I am looking to buy it for a project, and dont know much about it as of now. I do not know about the compression, Or if it is even getting fuel correctly, or if there is spark. I am simply asking if this is a common problem. Thanks in advance.

I dont know of any 'common' problems. If you have compression, fuel and spark, it should start. You need to narrow it down to one of these 3. If it doesnt have compression, could be bent valves or a blown piston. If it doesnt get fuel, check the carb for clogged jets. If you dont have spark , could be a spark plug or CDI or stator...........Has the bike been sitting for a while? What can the owner tell you? Why is it for sale?

The owner has told me he doesnt have time to mess with it and figure it out he has moved on.. i am just looking to pic it up as a side project not an every day rider. He has told me it cranks over but doesnt fire, he also said something about a fuse was blown I am going to look at it tomorrow im gonna check compression spark and the presence of fuel in the carb-intake area. I have seen pictures of it the only thing it needs cosmetically is a seat cover the plastic is all intact and such. he only wants 400 for it soo its wortch checking out. But thanks for the reply so soon i was just wondering if there were any common faults in that year range or in general that has to do with that. I will definitly get it running when I buy it or if i buy it wether it takes me a year or not. LOL

The fuse is located under the left rear fender. Sometimes they dont blow, they get old and fall apart. 400 bucks sounds like a decent deal. I would check all the front ball joints, A-arm bushings, front wheel bearings, swingarm bearings, and upper motor mounts. These parts on older Warriors Ive seen were always worn out. Everything else is pretty reliable on these old bikes. Make sure you use locktite when replacing bolts, as they are notorious for rattling out on Warriors.

if it was the fuse it wouldnt crank, so its not the fuse. even if all those problems raptor 450 stated are present, i would still pick it up for 400 and make a project out of it. i say go for it, then when you can get into troubleshooting and if you have any questions just ask! yfm350central.com is another good website dedicated to warrior and raptor350.
