You shouldn't be using regular automotive oil in anything with a wet clutch. Modern automotive oils have all kinds of friction modifiers and moly, which is designed to make everything as slippery as a greased fat kid on a wet marble floor, and the moly is designed to fill in any kind of pits or imperfections in a surface, so it fills in the surface of the friction pads so they don't grab anymore. Sorry to say it, but your new clutch may be fubared.

When a clutch is new, and not broken in, naturally it's going to have more friction because the surfaces haven't been worn down at all. Between the combination of the pads smoothing out from normal use, and all the friction modifiers filling it in and soaking into it, that's pretty good reason for it to be slipping. The only other thing I can tell you is obviously make sure your cable is adjusted right. Other than that, you'll just have to tear it apart and see how it looks, or you can try running some of the right oil through it and see if it flushes the bad stuff out. That might get it working again, although it'll probably never perform as well as it should.
