Kodaik Swingarm sliced
#1
On a trail this weekend I did a right side fish tail on a icy and rocky slope. Right rear well caught a rock but the bike rebounded as noraml. No rim crunching sounds. But all of a sudden the bike did not track straight.
I initially thought I snapped a axel but to my surprise the swingarm was split through right at the weld joint about 2 inches ahead of the diff. I was flabberagasted. I 've never hear of such a thing occuring. Has anyone else experienced or heard of this before. I will post a picture within the next day or so. This must be a very weak point if the right forces a applied to the rear right side of the machine.
300 CND for the swing and and 50 for the drive shaft that got lost on the trail. I sure wish I had the locking front diff on the 2004 as 1 wheel front wheel drive was a task to get the bike out of the woods- especially with an 11 yr old daughter in tow.

I have a 2004 that I found a crack in and it was out of warranty but Yamaha paid for the part and I paid the dealer to install it. I looked a my S/arm after another guy broke his on a ride I was also with him when it broke. Our VIN numbers were only 7 apart. Maybe we got the bad ones. But no problem after that.

I searched another threat the other day to discover that Yamaha HAS offered free part no labour for the slicing of the swingarm that I spend 2 weeks of down time working on fixing. Can anyone confirm such?
I want to post a picture but i don't know how; the cut and paster method doesn't work. Does this site allow pictures?
