Default 89 to 99 Warrior Flywheel Question

Is there a difference between a '89 and '99 Warrior flywheel? I have a '89 engine that I am swapping into a '99 frame. I was going to use the stator from the '99 so it works with the '99 wiring harness, but I then noticed that they changed the pickup coil from a '89 to a '99. So that got me thinking that maybe they changed the flywheel as well. I compared the two and the '99 has a much longer stip (1/4" x 3") of metal attached to the outside of the fly wheel then the '89 (1/4" x 3/4"). I was going to swap them but then it hit me that maybe that was just a weight to balanace the flywheel? Is that what it is, or does the '99 have a better charging system/coil on it?

Not 100% sure if there is any difference, but you should be able to interchange these parts without any problems. From my experiences, about the only thing they changed on the wiring were maybe the wire colors and the plugs. What happened to the '99 engine?

Default 89 to 99 Warrior Flywheel Question

I found the '99 on craigslist with a bunch of aftermarket parts for $200. The previous owner claimed that some metal got in the engine and locked it up. It turns over fine to me but I think that I should go through it first just to make sure. So in the mean time I was going to use the 89 engine in the 99 frame to have something to ride. But I got stumped when I saw the flywheel.

Thanks,

Wow, $200 sounds like you got a deal. You may want some more opinions on that flywheel, but like I said, most parts are interchangable. Ive built several Warriors before, I even bought one that I had to tote home in a box and pieced it together using parts from wherever I could find (this was before Ebay came about). Even now I have a hybrid Warrior/Raptor 350 and most of everything bolted right up to each other, so I say you should be fine.

He's right, the wire colors and plugs were changed, not sure which year it occurred though? Anyone?

All the motor parts should be the same among all year Warriors, 89 and up, including the Raptor350's. The 87/88 warriors had a different carb, plus the pull start, along with, correct me if I'm wrong, a mechanical decompression lever, for use when using the hand/pull start. Internally, the motors are all the same.
Raptor350's also have a different carb.

The 89 motor has the pull cord and the decompression lever but it does use the newer style carb. I think that they changed the wiring harness in 97 to update the clips and connectors.

You are correct, I just did a quick part # search and found that the main wiring harness changed from 3GD-82590-30-00 to -40-00 in 1997. I was thinking that it was later than that, around 2000. Thanks for the info.

Also, from the Ronnies.com site:

99 Flywheel: 3HN-85550-01-00 $393.50
89 Flywheel: 1UY-85550-21-00 $416.49

Part # 2, correct fellas, don't know why I'm second guessing that, but the callout for it is a "Rotor Assy"

Schematics:
99 Flywheel

89 Flywheel

Just for add'l info, the 1990 part no says: ROTOR ASSY, 3HN-85550-01-00 (replaces 3HN-85550-00-00) Which is wierd because it really is replacing 1UY-85550-21-00
