Default Raptor 350 Suspension Question (2007 SP Edit)

Hey guys, im lookin at a Raptor 350, but i looked on the tag on the quad and it says its good for 220 LBs, im a big guy, and im in around 275. Is it going to get twisted up with riding it by putting heavy springs on it, or will it be fine with the heavier springs put on aftermarket, or can i put it to the highest setting on the suspension to cover me? Im just worried ill twist everything up. I plan to do mostly trail riding, with some occasional smaller jumps, im not going xgames or track riding with it, just recreational use.

you should be fine with aftermarket suspension, it will not hurt anything

What kind of spring do you recommend with my weight, and my riding style, i rarely get more then like 4 foot of air, and thats once in a blue moon, typically its all trail riding with the normal bumps and tiny jumps.

if you dont have your heart set on the raptor 350, look at the suzuki z400, its a bigger quad and it would fit ou alot better. and i dont think its alot more expensive. try a few out if you can.

Default Raptor 350 Suspension Question (2007 SP Edit)

My heart was set on a YFZ until i saw they wouldnt budge on the price. Im really liking the raptor 350, i spoke with someone at my local dealer, and he said the raptor 350 on the higher stiffness suspension settings should be perfectly fine for me, is he wrong? Also from what i saw, theres nothing with more then a 243 lb max weight in a sport quad, hondas and kawasakis were the ones that had a 243, the yamahas all had 220. I just dont want to ruin it because im a little overweight for the quad, i want to make sure i dont have any future problems with breakage and tweaking stuff becuase of excess force on the whole quad from a lacking suspension.

Also, the 400 suzukis a little out of my current price range, the raptor is about 5200 out the door with taxes and everything, and i can just sqeeze that in, my dealer will be around 6300 or so out the door for that no problem for the suzuki, so i cant really afford it right now, to take the suzuki.

i wish i could give you more info, you have me my 100 lbs, and the biggest guy i ride with goes 230, he rides the z400. theres alot of guys here that can give you info though, do you trust the dealer? if you do then go with what they say, they are supposed to know their product inside and out, i just know thats not always the case.

Default Raptor 350 Suspension Question (2007 SP Edit)

I trust the dealer as far as giving me a good deal and servicing it, but im not sure if i trust them on what they say on the suspension. Yamaha sets a max for a reason, because thats the max. Im not sure. Im going to test drive it on friday to see if its enough quad to move me around, and still be somewhat snappy.

thats the only way you can really tell is by getting on the thing and riding it. the raptor comes really corked up from the factory, with a filter and exhaust you will notice a big gain in power and snappiness. so keeop that in mind also, and good luck, riding is great!
