Downtime

Well I screwed up my knee last saturday jumping out the back of my pick up truck, one leg got caught inside, while the other went over the side. Somehow my left foot hit the ground, bending my knee backwards and towards the right, throwing me on the ground. Went to the doctors yesterday have a tipial evolsuion fracture. I meet with a orthopedic surgeon on Friday. I hope I'm not out for long, hopefully I'm the small % that will get away w/ no surgery. I guess this will give me some time to save the bruin from my relentless abuse and maybe I can change some fluids on her.
Anyone have any knee injuries like this? Recovery times? I know its a real situation to situation prognosis but just curious.

i had something called a skiers fracture (thats what the doc told me) happen to my thumb, similar in that the ligament tore away from the bone, bringing some bone with it. i opted not to have surgery because i played college football and could play with a cast but not the dressing, so i was in a thumb spike fiberglass cast for 6 weeks, and now i have a nasty calcium deposit where the bone healed in the gap. i wish i had the surgery, i wouldnt have the chance of arthritis in my thumb like i do now, and you get the happy pills to go with it
all kidding aside, i hope you get back at it sooner than later.

I tore my left lateral myofascial tendon (tendon on the back of your knee) running, it was by far the more painful experience I have ever felt. It was a 85-90% tear. My dad is a chiropractor and took x-rays of it. He is an anti-surgery person and so am I. This was about a year ago that it happen and im just starting to walk normal and I will start lifting weights again soon (im 22years old). Although this isnt bone damage I think it is worse. It is VERY hard for a tendon or ligament to rebuild itself because its like a rubber band. However bones constantly grow up to a certain point.
My reccomendation is to get a brace for it and wait a few weeks/months to see if you start geting some strenght and overall confidence in the leg back. I know how hard it is to have a messed up knee and it is very stressfull and not fun. Look up the nutriants you need for your bone to grow and eat a lot of them. I feel that surgery is a life or lim kinda deal (in most cases). The human body is an amazing organism and it can and will do everything it can to heal itself.
If you wait a few weeks/months and it doesnt feel better and you want the surgery go for it. I say stay off of it for awhile and see what happens.
I am not a doctor but I am an emt and in paramedic school and have quite a bit of knowledge of the human body. Nothing against any doctors but %99.9 of the time they will reccomend surgery or drugs, they have to make a living too. I think diet and exercise will solve most peoples problems.
Im making this call upon what you have said, without pictures, a history, or knowledge of your personal health it is hard to say much more than what I have already.
I hope you have a speedy, painless, full recovery.

thanks guys, I don't really want surgery myself, but if they say I should I will definitely get at least one more opinion. I'm 25, not extremely active, but my job requires allot of walking and lifting. Good thing my boss wants me back to work so bad he is willing to pay me to sit in my chair until this is done. I feel worse for the wife, now she has basically no help with our 7month old son because I'm bound to crutches...

i was hospitalized for 6 weeks following an industrial accident in which i had my toes removed. when you dont move the limb much you loose allot of muscle. I couldent walk for 6 months, but after a few weeks of therapy i regained the strenth back in my left leg. I don't walk right because of the damage done and now have arthritis at the age of 23 in my knee hip and ankle. But give me the meds and away i go.
Good luck and go for the surgery if they think you need it
