1997 timberwolf 250 no electric start
I recently purchased a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250 4x2. I installed a new battery due to the old one was a gonner. The electric start does not work at all,it has voltage to it and all. The starter solenoid can be jumped and it will start rite up. Does this mean I need to replace the solenoid? Any help would be appreciated the pull start method gets old after awhile. If you jumpered the two large terminals on the solenoid you proved that the battery and starter is OK.???
Need to manipulate the two smaller terminals to see if the solenoid kicks in.
Then follow that smaller wire on the hot side of the solenoid see if it goes to a small relay
See if the wires there are connected properly.
one should go to a neutral safety switch and the other to the starter button.
Best I can do here with just a guess.

thanks for your info. I did find a light blue wire that is broken off near the solenoid, it had fallen down toward the rear axle, I traced it to the front and it goes to the nuetral light/switch area, If i ground it, it turns on the nuetral lite whether it is in gear or not. but I can not figure out if it came out from around the relay, or solenoid area. there is enough length on the wire to have. also there is no connector on the end, just bare wires. Does this help in telling me where to go next. Thanks

This relay you mention is the starter cutoff relay
It has 4 connections
one blue wire ------ goes to neutral safety switch
three & four red/white ------ red stripped has a jumper to two terminals and goes to starter switch
#2 terminal should go to the solenoid.
And be carefull grounding out wires if you do not know where they go...
Find the neutral safety switch and it should be missing this wire. I am guessing here.
