Default Grizz 660 probelm

Yesterday while riding my Grizz, it started sputtering and trying to die while I was going up a steep hill. This is a disaster waiting to happen.. Anybody else have this problem.?? Two things, the engine was good and hot and we had just started riding after a 10min break.. Also it appeared that the gas tank was not venting properly.. Any thoughts?

if the gas tank was not venting properly you might have some mud or dirt in the vent hose that goes down in front of your bars.

I took the hose off and blew through it. It was fine...

I took that out too., but just to see if it was stuck. I will remove it and try that. By the way, what is that ball supposed to do.. Thanks for your reply...

This happened to me once when riding in heavy snow after a break. Found out I had steam from the melting snow getting sucked into the air intake. The sputtering cleared up in a short time after I got moving again. It has never happened again since that day.

if you think it might be the steam try cutting some holes in the black plastic side panels. I did and my machine does not bog at all when i hit water or even deep snow.

Well, I don't know if the underlying problem is the exact same problem I'm having but I'll explain it as best I can and then a few additional add-on grizzly fixes.

Ok.. for the record I have an 05 grizzly with stock everything except for the exhaust tip --which gave me a few horsepower (noticeably).

The problem I have sounds SIMILAR, except that I had full power through the spectrum until I reach top-end. The same problem is detected if you put it in neutral and give it full throttle until it tachs out. It begins skipping when it tachs out. The reason I noticed this is because every time I ride.. which may be 2-3 days in between riding.. I lose exactly 2-3 mph top end speed. When I bought it, it did not do this and I maintained a top speed of 64 mph... which a vehicle's speedometer said 74 mph.. but now that the sputtering started, I'm down to 52-53 mph and have to back off the throttle about 1/2 inch to maintain this speed... once I give it full throttle it feels like it just LUNGES forward for a fraction of a second and the sputtering starts... almost like a four cylinder firing on two .......Don't understand it.. but what I've read indicates that the valve clearance may need adjusting.. but nowhere does this indicate that this is the direct problem. I hate to go dump 500 dollars to get the valves checked if nothing is wrong with them, and until recently I got the quad wet, and now I seem to notice that it is like starting a dirtbike in second gear..... it torques up and then dies down until it catches up with the fuel supply... weird...

Anybody have similar problems? I am looking at a set of 27 inch vampires, for four hundred dollars, but if it is running like this on the stock 25" I am going to sell out.

-----

There are a few hoses that may become clogged.. one of them goes down toward the earth and is on the left side of the bike. You need to make sure this vacuum line is not pointed down toward the earth... If so, pull it up and route it up to where the Carb Intake is located underneath the fuel tank. This will keep you from stalling in deep water (up to the gear shift)(this hose would be located on the FORWARD side of the crank case if it is pointing down still). There is another hose that is running on the same side of the bike on the REAR side of the crank case that may also be re-routed to receive air when in certain situations. I'd have to take pictures, but if interested let me know.

as for your bike starting like a dirt bike i would say take the belt houseing off and clean it, then grease it. i do mine 2 times a summer. takes 1-3 hours deppending on beer intake.! lol anyways take right foot peg/gaurd off then the houseing screws clean it out, blow it out with commpresser, then greas the bearings NOT THE BELT!
