Default Corba Exhaust???

haha they're known for that bracket breaking off. Usually when that happens people take a hint and replace it with a good aftermarket one.

And louder is not necessarily better. I can take the exhaust off of anything and it'll be loud as hell. Does that mean it's more powerful? No sir, it just means the valves are probably burning up as we speak. It's all about the exhaust being well designed with the right balance of flow, backpressure, scavenging, noise supression, etc. THAT'S what makes a good exhaust, not just that it's louder. I mean come on, if you guys just want your quad to be louder, why don't you just skip the middle man and replace the silencer with a piece of straight pipe and call it a "high performance" pipe. You get the same effect of no gains, burned valves, loud but horrible sound, and do it a lot cheaper (and you don't have to worry about the damn thing just falling right off hehe)

Haha the best part of that whole story is the idiot himself tried picking it up with his jacket and it burned right through the jacket haha...Then his new bracket I believe is some chicken wire or hose clamp lol...His quad was junk to begin with and smokes like a chimney...That is when it actually ran

My buddy bought a new DG (about the same as a Cobra) for his Warrior after I told him it was a waste of money. It wouldnt even fit! The rear bracket was welded on the wrong side of the silencer! He ended up taking it back and buying an HMF, which fit and worked perfect.

As far as an aftermarket pipe close to stock sound, the only ones I know of are the FMF powercore 4, and their "Q" series pipes. The powercore is louder than the q series, but still has a similar sound to the stock one. I don't think any of those sound that great though, or are worth the money FMF rapes you for them. And forget about an aftermarket CDI unless you want to spend $400 on a dyna, the others arent worth 5 bucks.

Anyone that recommends a cobra has never owned an exhaust that was actually engineered, and not just thrown together. Less back pressure doesn't mean more power. Heck, cut your stock exhaust system off and you have a lot less backpressure. More powerful? Nah. There's a whole lot more to power gains than just how freely it flows. There's a lot of engineering and physics involving how exhaust pulses combine, react, stack up, etc. A properly designed exhaust will actually scavenge exhaust gases from the cylinder among other things.

I appreciate the info, I spend time here lurking and learning. What do you buy for 10 year old utilities, the kids putter around the farm in? I hate to pay $300 for a muffler on a $1200 ATV?
I have a timberwolf and bear tracker for my wife and daughter, and it is getting to be time for mufflers. Is a $190 for Stock is the best way to go. Performance is NOT an issue. I am tempted to weld some tractor mufflers to the header pipes!

Id run a tractor muffler before I bought a Cobra or DG. Ive seen people run Cherry Bombs from a car! Maybe you could find a used factory one from a salvage place or Ebay?

I wouldn't spend $190 on a stock one. If you just want something to replace your original one that's rusted out or damaged, keep an eye on ebay. You can probably pick up one in good shape for about $50 shipped to your door.
