brake problems/ with raptor 660
#1
hello how is everyone
i have not posted for a while due to a new edition to my family
i'm now getting back to riding,
I wen't to st.joe the other day in park hills mo. with some friends
i ended up smoking the bearings in my rear end and blowing out a tire on my 04 raptor 660
the bearings finally gave in to the sand/ chat mud and dirt and years of torture
I ended up replacing my axle bearings by myself, boy what a chore
i made a few mistakes and whanted to ask you guys some questions. because i learned how to rejet a carb and do allot of things from you guys, I have allot of respect for you guys on the forum due to you vast knowledge and experience. it shows in allot of your posts
I ended up bending part of my axle where the castle nut goes on by using to much force trying to remove the axle. I had to cut some of it off and this left me know place to install the pin on the castle nut. so this is what I did, I used blue lock tite and tightened the nut back down, lucky there was enoughf meat on the axle for the nut to screw into. So far no problems, I rode it approx nine miles and everything stayed tight so far. has anyone else ever did this to their axel.
Also I used a multipurpose lithium grease on the bearings that they sell at wal-mart. The super tech stuff. Has anyone else used this type of grease. Do you think I made a mistake by using this grade. I just heard that it would be allright but next time use a better grade of grease such as a molly lithium grease or a marine grade grease. What do you guys think about the topic.
Next problem I created was this while working on the bike. I discovered I needed new rear brakes. So I replaced the brakes and while putting them on I had a hard time compressing the rear caliper. I ended up losening a long bolt that caused this. I now need to tighten the rear brakes some way and I don't know how. They are to loose and what I mean by this is. They are not grabbing the disc when I press my rear brake foot lever. The brakes are not grabbing enoughf to be effective. When I tested this I discovered when I started the bike my rev liniter was kicking in and causing my bike to back fire. It sent a blew flame while it was dark out of the rear pipe. This has realy upset me and I realy don't want to take it to the stealer ship if there is something I can do to fix it. Also several years ago I did the by pass rev limiter home remedy method that I got from raptor forums. The home remedy by splicing a resistor between two wires inside the wiring harness. I have not had any probblems with it to now. What do you guys thinks about the problems Im having.
Any imput would be greatly appreciated
