Default Removen Head on Moto 4

Hey I am wondering when i remove the head on my moto 4 will i have to change the piston rings sense i remove the head? And another question is how do i make sure i have the cam chain right? An last question is i cant remove that big bolt thats under the intake part on the motor. I was trying to remove the front plate i remove the 4 screws an i guess i got to remove those 2 big bolts i cant remove those for nothing. What should i do?
Also i want to know is there away to check if the motor turns? Because my starter is broken soo i want to make sure the motor turns before i buy the starter. Is there another way to check?

You wont have to replace the rings if you remove just the head. If you remove the cylinder and the head, it would be wise to go ahead and replace the rings and/or the piston. I dont know the answer to the other questions.

If you want to go through the trouble you can make sure the engine turns by removing the stator cover and just turning the flywheel by hand. You should also be able to check the tranny by putting it in gear and spinning the flywheel it should try to move the back tires, that is depending on the clutch some wont do that.

I cant remove the the plate thats over the flywheel. When i unbolt the plate it seems like that shift lever is in the way because i cant get that shift lever off to remove the plate.

Well you might be able just to put it in gear and spin the tires. Sometimes that works. Why can't you get the shifter off? Can you not get the bolt out or is it stuck on the shaft. Alot of the time if you get the bolt out and its stuck just put a decent flat head screwdriver in the split of the shifter and hammer it in lightly. Normally this makes them easy to get off.

That doesn't make any sence why you cant move the back tires in gear unless the motor is locked up somewhere. Something you might try is to put it in neutral and try to use the cam chain to spin the motor. With the head off you should be able to spin the enigine rather easily. It is starting to sound like the motor is locked. Were you riding it and then decided to tear it down or did you get the it from someone with it in the condition it is.

OK well got more information. I got it from the woods because my friend moved I made a thread about it. But i took off the cam chain plate put it in a gear an pushed it an i can see the chain moven an i could here the piston moven. Soo thats good! I am wondering sense my starter is broken. Can i put the end of the starter to my drill an use the drill to turn it? Will that work?? And another problem is that my shift lever is loose how do u tighten it up?

Im not exactly sure about the starter question, got me kinda confused. Are you sure the starter is bad and its not the switch? As far as the shifter goes unless the splines are worn out bad you should be able just to tighten the bolt that goes through it. If you look where the bolt goes through there is a spit in the shifter that allows it to tighten and loosen when you want it to. If it is already pulled together all the way you may have a problem. Dont overtighten those bolts break easy.
