Default raptor problems

i have a buddy with a 01 raptor 660.he's been having carb problems. he got a almost new set of 04' carbs and slapped them on . ran damn good, sat up for about a month and my other buddy took it out and said it spit and sputtered all day. my buddy checked the floats and jets, seemed ok. u turn the gas on and it just pisses all over the ground(i know sounds like floats),u try and ride it and it sputters and dies . ??? any thoughts

Lets see....does your buddies 01 Rap still have the 01 cylinder-to-carb boots? The engine would burp and slightly disengage the carbs from the boots, wreaking havoc on starting and adjustments. The 02 carb boot is redesigned and works better. That out of the way, a simple fix of the float level is first flip the carbs upside down and level. Next, take the carb bowls off and adjust the floats until they are aligned parallel, not low or high in relation to the carb base......looking from the side. A new spark plug, making sure the carbs vacuum systems are working properly with no cracks, and a clean air filter probably needs to be done as well. Easy to overlook the little things sometimes.

Sounds like a float needle is stuck open or the floats are really out of adjustment. That is about the only way gas will pour out of the tubes when you turn on the gas valve.

Default raptor problems

hello this is my first post i hope it posts correct.
i read about your friends problem. funny i had the same thing happen to me. this is what i found, it spudders because the mid jet is clogged with dirt or sand. at least mine was. As for gas running on the ground. i had this happen to me 3 times and this is what i found, one time i had some dirt on the little valve connected to the float and would not allow the end to seal stopping the flow of gass. 2 weeks ago it did it again, this time i found that is was the O-Ring round the bass body/insert just underneath the floats. Yamaha shop wanted 50 bucks for the new brass inserts ( sorry i dont know the name, but the vlave slides in there and that is the seat used to stop/restrict the flow of gas into the bowels) well i went down to the auto part store and bought a bag of O-Rings for 2 bucks and put in new orings and no more leaking carbs for me now. so i hope this helps you. also you might want to stick an inline fuel filter on to stop dirt from flowing into the carbs. but this is what i had go wrong with mine, hope it helps ya!
Ride safe!
