Default can I run these tires?

Hey guys, back with questions for my neighbor.

He has a shop telling him he can not run 26-10-12 on front and 26-12-12 on rear stock rims of 1999 Yamaha BigBear 350. They told him he could not run more than 9 on front and 11 on rear even though it is running stock 8's on front and 10's on rear.

They also told him if he tries to run a deep lug mud tire he would burn up his 4wheeler. Said he needs to stay with something like a Mud Lite.

Sounds like the dealer is just trien to cover there ***, now with that said.

If you want to run 26"s on there go ahead, it will be a sight bit doggy but not too bad. If your not going to run in deep mud, then I would buy 26" MUD LITES AT they are a 3/4" lug tire. Now if you don't like mud lites then SWAMP FOX aslo makes a 3/4 lug tire that are also really good.

What kinda tires are you thinking about, does your big bear have low range, have you thought about a clutch kit?

They are saying that the rims are too narrow for the 10" wide on front and 12" wide on rear.

Also, he was looking at one of the deep lug mud tires... ITP 589.

I guess my main question is will the sizes fit the stock rims widths? He has plenty of clearance I just would hate to see him too balloned out to keep tires on the front. All he does is creek bed with sand and mud and the hills that go up and down into them.

No problems with the front rims as long as there a 7" wide rim. Other wise may just have to break down and get some aftermarket rims. Far as tire choise if he likes 589 then go with them, but there are alot better ones out there.

I hear so many different things about what tires to get! I ride a 2006 Honda Rubicon with MudLites. We do lots of riding in mud, sand, and wet hills. My Mudlites do pretty good right now but they are brand new. My wife have MudLite XTR's on hers. She does not ride as nasty as I do so I really can not compare them.

My neighbor rides with us all the time. What would be the best all around tire for what we do? This is my first ATV so I have nothing to compare tires with. I outride everyone that rides with us. One has Swampers on a Grizz 660 and I stay lots less stuck than him. Another has a 2006 Honda Rencon with some sort of Kendra tire and he gets stuck more often than me.

Hell I only get stuck in the sand or when I get hung on a rut. :-) I am always up for better ideas though.

This is what I tell people if your running a 350 or so don't get real argessive tires, not more than a 1" tread depth. Your motor won't make enough grunt to ge the tires spinning in deep thick mud.
So I would probly either get the mud like AT 3/4" or a set of kenda bear claws, in a 26" tire.

Now if he still wants those 1 1/4 or deeper tires no taller than stock height.

Hey lets face it, no matter how much ground clearance you got, your going to get stuck. Besides your off playen in a mud hole for what a half hour hour tops. I would much rather have desent power and ride over ruff riding, low power tires.

The tires will fit on the rims, but with tires that wide you're going to have clearance issues with the fenders and chassis when you turn and maybe hit the exhaust pipe when the rear suspension dips down.

He ended up going 9 on front and 10 on rear. Went with MudLite XL and they do great!
