Hi,
I just got a 2000 kodiak 400 ultramatic. The eBay ad said that all it needed were rear brakes. Well back and front brakes were shot. Anyway, the main problem is the shifter. When I got it, it wouldn't go into gear at all. I finally figured out that the shifter assembly was stripped, so it wasn't moving the shifting linkage. The guy I got it from sent me a shifter assembly off of a Bruin...said it was the same (except for the top cap, which I could switch with the old one). Anyway, it did look exactly the same. After replacing that and trying to adjust everything I could, most of the time, when going into reverse, or forward, it just grinds. It won't go into high. and the shift lever won't pull back into park at all. Occasionally, it will jump into reverse or forward, but most of the time it just grinds. Any suggestions?
P.S. With bad brakes, bad shifter, and really beat up front bumper, did I get ripped off at $2000?

i dont think the bruin has the park or low positions on it. you need to get a shifter for your bike. for 2k no you didnt get ripped off.

Wow.............I don't think that my 02 has ever grinded when going in gear. Is the atv idling high? You might want to check both ebay and atv junk yards for cheap parts.

Once you get past the shifting thing you will enjoy the atv
