Default 450 results so far.

As you know i own a 2007 yfz450. I have raced an 06 trx, (dont tell me i should have raced the 07 because its up to date, because all they changed is the a arm length). And i have raced an 07 lt-r450. Dirtwheels is way WRONG in their 450 shootout. They said the honda had the most motor, then yfz, then zuki. Well, let me tell you again, that is wrong. I raced an 06 trx450r, stock to stock, and i spanked him good. There was no comparison, i pulled every gear and in the end i beat him by 4 lengths. When we traded off the results were identical.

Results were much different with the suzuki. First, i raced the ltr with my stock tires with about 40-50% tread (20") and he had his stock 18" tires with ice studs in them. Both bikes have the baffle removed for this race, we did not get any with the baffle in. My yfz won by 3-4 lengths between 3 races. Remember now, this was on grass, the amount you hook up matters, the honda vs yamaha race was on asphault. He then put on a pair of itp holeshot hd's 20"ers from his kfx450 he had in the trailer.

This race was much closer, i would only beat him by a bike length or so, given that my tires were half way gone compared to his brand new hd's. He then removed his airbox lid and would tie with me or beat me by a length. Skeptical of whether my bike would run right with the lid off plus the baffle was already out, i checked to see.

Too my surprise, the ncvq needle that i installed the day before (needle out of the yz450f, its an adjustable needle compared to non adjustable ncbvg or somethin like that) is a riched taper of a needle, so when i ran it on the same clip postion where it would seat at the same measurements as the non adj. needle would (4th clip) it actually ran richer, so therefore, with the airbox lid off, there was quite the noticable improvement. I had to adjust my air/fuel screw a bit, to get it dialed in a little better. This race was quite the spine tingling race, wondering about the outcome. My yfz took it by 1 to 2 lengths. Imagine what it would have been like with brand new 20's on?

I have a bone stock yfz 450 and i just took it to the local dirt drags and i was wondering what kind of cheap and easy things i could do to get some more speed out of it. I thought about changing the front sprocket for more top end but i dont know. How much of a difference does it make if i would take the baffle and air box lid off.
