If you're going to take it easy, teach him and keep an eye on him by accompanying him when he rides then yes it's not a big deal.

I spent some time learning on my father's 250R, but when I was new to the sport I sure as heck wasn't ready for it. And that was after riding motorcycles for 4 years.

But throwing an inexperienced kid on one of the most powerful atvs available and turning him loose just because he's proven to you he can ride around the yard without crashing is where we have a problem. I'm not suggesting that's what you'll do, but rather trying to explain the concern many of us have in these situations.

And the kids on motorcycles are probably on 85's and 125 two strokes or 125 and 250 trail bred thumpers, small machines that are better suited to their size. Not 450cc race bikes or a 500cc two stroke.
thats what i was thinking

Totally agree and am a very concerned parent and will teach him the right way - he already respects it w/o even riding it. I got to do some dirt mound climbs today and it was fun fun fun! Like when I had my Honda 200SX back in 9th grade. That thing was fun! I was always eyeing the 250R - boy that tells my age!

My buddy had some neat feet platforms with nets to keep your feet protected when jumping. I think I might have to get some of those. They would have saved me once today

Thanks,
Chris

Yeah, nerf bars also protect your feet and legs from getting smashed by other riders if you crash into each other. I have seen 2 instances where if they didnt have the nerf bars, we would have been hauling some riders out of the woods with broken legs. Nerfs also allow you to bounce off if you go between some tight trees instead of your rear tire getting hung up.

I just ordered the holeshots from them, nice to talk to on the phone, I never ordered from them before, so I wanted to call first (see how the phones work!) I was happy to find out the wait on the phone is not long at all, then a nice person answers and takes all info on order, very nice ordering experience. as for your raptor, I just got mine yesterday, its an 02 as well, needs a one way clutch, I guess that will be the next thing I order, but only paid 1700 for it plus the guy threw in an Oneal helmet with goggles, needs back tires/wheel (one bent) one way clutch and grab bar, I need to buy the grab bar now, looks like the one way clutch I will get the L&C one or somthing, what all r u gonna do with yours?

LOL OMG, you people act like a kid cant ride any thing when the truth is im 16 now but i was racing my dads friends on my raced 60cc dirt bike when i was in the 3rd grade and whoopin them, i broke the first bone in my body racing that thing.
and 125's are not small bikes, pros race them you know, like bubba stewart (untill he went to 450's). but most frestylers use the because they are light snappy and fast. the only thing i would worry about is him wrecking stuff and all you have to do is make him buy new stuff for everything he breaks. it works great, my parents used it on me.

Agreed there Factory...

Deal not so sure - just put new tires on it all the way round and took it out in the mud the other day. Man what a blast! The only thing I'd say I don't like it having to wrap it up so much to stay in the power band. Low RPM torque is not what this motor is about. But alas it does get there quick enough for what I want to do with it!

I will probably make my grab bar for the back since I like to build junk...and well I do have scrap laying around to make it.... Plus then I can say I built something for it...many people can't say that of anything these days...
