i was in a class with all other 450s and 450r's i have a 660r that is modded-good but i know if i tear down the motor and bore it out what is the best options i have, is the 686 with a high comp piston be more reliable than a 727 kit? cause i want sompthing to not only smoke the 450s but Embarrass them, i have a bout 1500 grand maby more to put in. what a bout a stroker 686, i need sompthing that can handle being road hard on race day. thanks 4 u r help

Have you done any head work yet? If not, maybe you should think about a port & polish, valves, and a good cam (not a Hotcam). And maybe just do a higher compression piston, like a JE. You could save some of that $1500, and still beat them 450's and maybe one day if you lock the crank up you could get that stroker. Just my opinion.

A high compression 686 with a good port job and a Stage 2 cam will put a major hurt on 95% of all 450s *if* you can get into 3rd gear. I had a MX Raptor with about $2500 in suspension and a Craycraft Racing Signature 686 motor. On straight sections or long sweepers, I could pass the 450s at will, just roll on the throttle and reel them in. In tight corners, I was clear off the seat almost sitting on the nerf bars and they'd still come around me.
Making a Raptor into a full blown MX machine is possible but you'll work twice as hard wrestling it around the track and spend 10x as much money to get the same lap times as a mildly modified 450.
