Default Blew up Blaster

Hello,

Blew the motor on Sunday riding my 01 Blaster that I just purchased a month ago. Rings where pretty much melted to the side of the piston. Looks like it was running lean as the piston is light colored with some white but plug didn't look to bad but was probably lighter then it should. Not a huge expert or have a ton of experience. My Blaster had Toomey B1 kit, V-Force reeds, and an open air box. Previouse owner put in the 310 main jet that comes with the pipe kit but I am thinking that didn't accomidate the other mods??? Wondering what would be a good jetting size to run with these add ons. I bought a stock air box so could run that as well just not sure where direction to head. Also thinking about the dial a jet to as I really don't want this to happen again. Any insight on this would be much appreciated. Thanks so much.

Chad

It's going to be one of two things. Either lean on oil or lean on fuel. I can't tell you which it's going to be.......I'm not there.

Was the piston stock?

310 main jet sounds about right for what you have..The airbox lid open may have pushed it over the edge..The reeds don't add much power, they shouldn't have been a problem. I got the same things except an FMF and no open lid, and I'm only running a 280..All pipes are different though.

Great Thanks guys I appreciate your input, guess I either have to run the stock air box with maybe some vents or jet up?

Ohh and yes it was the stock piston so she was probably pretty tired as it was being an 01.

Yeah it's just weird that you melted the piston..I've heard of a few aftermarket pistons (specific companies) melting like that very very quickly. But I havn't heard too much about stock pistons doing it.

I would advise making sure your jetting isn't lean. Also get a Wiseco piston. They're great.

You know how to check the jetting?

Trailx,

Yeah I thought it was weird to but its more of my lack of experience I guess. I just ordered a Weisco Piston today. I hate this jetting crap its really a pain as I don't want it to happen again. Sure hope its not the crankcase seals, I really dont want to mess with it and it it was older I would be more conserned but being an 01 I really dont think it is but how do you know for sure. I would love some info on checking the jetting and also what you would recommend for brake in period. Thanks again for everyones replies they are much appreciated.
