Went mudding and well it was doing it before, now that's all it does. Can push start it fine. Think the teeth on that there thing is gone... :/

What all do I need to replace and P/N if you have them?

yhea it sounds like the teeth are stripped off, but You should remove the starter to check first, you might just need a complete starter, or you might need the flywheel

Have you ruled out a 1 way starter clutch problem?

I have not - I was looking at the manual and not sure if I need to take the whole thing off (exhaust and all) or can I take the left side (AC Magneto side) inspection plate off to see the teeth? If not how to I check the starter clutch? I got'z the tools - just want to know what to take off in the best order to avoid a mess...

Do a search on Raptor 1 way starter clutch and you should find a ton of useful information....anywhere from symptoms to the actual fix. This has been a problem area on all of the early Raptors...although it seems like the last year or so of 660 production this problem did'nt seem to occur as frequent. You should quit running the engine if it's the 1 way....a spring inside the 1 way grenades and the spring winds up in your oil system.

I took the gear cover off on the magneto side and the gears all appear like new. Guess I'll be tearing off the starter next... I took a pic but it appears you can't share those here.... booo hooo!

How much did you pay vs a new starter RockyMountain has a new one for $165? I found this...http://www.raptorstarterclutch.com/ I assume the clutch is inside the starter?

Or there is this: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/01-03-Yamaha-Raptor-660-ONE-WAY-BEARING-STARTER-CLUTCH_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43977QQihZ010QQi temZ200115188350QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
">http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...sspagenameZWDVW
</a>

So since I have the cover off - can I try to start it to see if the gear kicks out like it is trying to engage? If not what does that tell me? Clutch is bad or starter is bad or none of the above? Or do I just need to tear apart the starter to look inside? And this 52 tooth gear? Is that inside the starter or one of the gears I am looking at on the Magneto side?

Sorry kinda lost....
