Default Blaster Flywheel Question

I have recently bought a 1988 blaster "basket case" for $350. I found that the reason why it was taken apart is because the seal retainer bracket was broke, so I think it is a pretty good deal so far. On to my question, the guy I bought it from took the screws that hold the magnets to the flywheel out for some reason mixing up the magnets. I put the flywheel back together, but I could not see any difference in the magnets so I just put them in the flywheel and it all looks good and fits on the stator good with good clearance. I am not sure what sets the pulser (pickup) coil for the ignition timing. So is my timing going to be off sense I don't know what order the magnets went in? I know I could just buy a new flywheel but I don't want to if I don't have to. What set the pulser coil off? How does the cdi on the Blaster know when the piston is at or close to TDC? Any info would help.

Thanks

I can't help you with the blaster, but if you ask around you may be able to find a shop manual online for downloading. Or maybe ebay may have one you could buy.
Sorry, I can't be of more help to you.

Default Blaster Flywheel Question

Thanks for the info. I do have a Clymer manual and it covers the removal and installation of the flywheel. I called the dealer and there was a lot of " I Thinks". So I was just trying to get more info. Any more info out there would be helpful.

Default Blaster Flywheel Question

I took a closer look at a blaster flywheel we had in the parts bin.. The only thing I can see is a little drilled out hole that had a plug in it. It seems to be at the right hight for the pluser.

It looked like like the hole on the side of this one

Default Blaster Flywheel Question

Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer my question. My flywheel has three kinda half drilled holes in it, that must be it.
Thanks again.

Default Blaster Flywheel Question

If you can answer a question for me, i might be able to help. I'm not familiar with the blaster.

Are the magnets symmetric relative to thier mounting or can they only go in in one direction? If they only go in one way, then which goes where should not be a problem.

The issue is getting the N/S poles pointing in the right direction. If they are 'keyed' so they will only go in one way, then it's not a problem.

Good luck!

They can go in either direction and in any order. That is what the confusing thing is. Sense I am not the person who took it apart I do not know what direction they go in or what order. They all look the same. I hope this is the info you wanted.
Thanks

Default Blaster Flywheel Question

If it has a separate coil for the crankshaft position sensor, as the Raptor has, (it's a little bobbin that mounts outside the flywheel and looks for a little 'bump' on the flywheel) then the following should work.

If you were to put the magnets together on your benchtop into a cylinder (they are cylindrically shaped in one axis, right?) such that they all stick together magnetically and make a circle, this will be the orientation that they should mount inside the flywheel. The poles will be lined up correctly relative to each other now.

Since these mags are used to generate AC, the pole orentation relative to the flywheel shouldn't be an issue; in other words, the up or down of the 'circle' of magnets as it is mounted into the flywheel, as long as the magnets want to stick to each other and NOT repel.

If anybody has knowledge that lends fault to my premise, speak now!

Good luck!
