1987 yamaha banshee I NEED HELP!!
I have an 87 banshee that was recently given to me and I need some help. It's a 2 stroke (?) and I don't know if it takes just gas or mix and what the ratio is. Also, do I need to add some 10w30 for the engine or tranny? I'm not sure and I really appreciate any help possible. Thanks all

Search the old threads in these forums, I bet you find some answers.
I did really quick and I see many people run different ratios for the gas to oil some people would run as high as 50:1 and others 40 or 32:1
I didnt search about the gear or tranny oil but I'm sure you can find something. Or someone else will chime in.
Good luck.

and just to clarify.....that means NO not normal gas, you need to mix gas and oil.
And car oils aren't good either. You need a oil that is compatible w/ a wet clutch
I don't know what type of oil you will need since your mixing could be the same as what you put into your tranny.? I have a 4 stroke. But I do know you can't use 'normal' oil.

I run Bel-Ray S-2 two cycle oil. You do mix it with your gas. I mix mine 24:1. That's about 27 oz of oil to 5 gal of gas. If your quad is old and a little bit worn out I would run 20:1 which is 32 oz of oil to 5 gal. The tranny takes seperate oil. Bel-Ray gear saver is good for that. Good luck and have fun riding.

I am suprised to see reccomendations of as rich as 20 to 1. Waaay back in the 80s I used to run my Banshee at 50 to 1 with no problems. This was virtually all dune riding in Oregon, so it was a lot of full throttle running. I remember I used to buy Torco 2 stroke oil.

i have a banshee and i run the gas to a 40:1 ratio. i run a pint of golden spectro premix 2 stroke oil to 4 gallons of gas. this has worked great for me. i've torn my motor apart many times and the inside is clean as a whistle, no carbon deposits or anything, and it doesnt smoke nearly as much with that brand of oil. any other questions please ask.

I used to run Maxima in my two strokes @ 4 oz. to the gallon. It does burn super clean and has a sweet smell, too! This oil does not mix with your tranny oil. The oil in the gas lubes your piston and connecting rod bearing. You also have motor oil in the tranny. I have always ran 10W40 Havoline in mine with no problems. I have even ran transmission fluid in one of my 2 strokes before with no problems. It was some of that B&M stuff that is $7 a quart. I didnt notice any difference so I went back to plain ol engine oil.
