125cc Breeze wont start
#1
So i just got this ATV like a week ago from a family friend for free (he wanted it outta his garage so i took it, IF ITS FREE ITS FOR ME)! Anyways, he said it needed a starter (so i bought a new one) and i bought a brand new battery, and all that stuff works great it turns over and everything!!
But... When i tried to start it 2 things were wrong,
1) The fuel tank leaks around the fuel **** (where can i get one cheap, im on a limited budget and i would like to keep the money i have into this thing at a minium)
2) If i spray starter fluid in the carb it will run until it burns that off then it dies, i pulled the carb and pulled it apart and took it completely apart and cleaned it since it had been sitting for a while but no luck!!
I dont know exactly what year this thing is (no paper work yet) but its an older one maybe 1991 or so. where can i pick up a new carb cheap if thats it?!?! Any good brands i found a mikuni 18mm for like $70 here: http://www.procycle.us/carb/mikuni.htm
Its the vm18-44?!?! Is that the one i need?? Thanks for the help guys im not really new to ATVs i just never had to work on one like this (these kinda problems) By the way, it gets air and spark im just thinking the carb is junked up!! Is a new one the way to go??
Thanks again!!!!

The carbs on these things are a tin can. They are really easy to work on. The first thing you need to do is see if the carb is getting fuel. Take the hose off of the carb bung and see if fuel comes out. If not, find out what's the deal.
If it's getting fuel then you need to take the carb off and take it apart and clean it.............well..........every passage. Take the main jet out and also the pilot jet. Blow some carb cleaner through it.
No reason to get a new carb. Just do a good job on the one you have and you will be fine.

Thanks for the help doc, but.... i did already try that, i used almost a whole can of carb and choke cleaner on it w/no luck. It gets fuel all the way up to the carb (down from the fuel shut off). so i dunno!! Thanks Again

Your missing something in the carb. It's up to you to find it; clean it, and put it back together. Or, like you said, if it's not worth your time, just buy a used carb.
Good luck man, they are fun little quads to mess around on. Hope you get it running soon.

Doc, you know where i can get a used one or a good new one (carb) that wont break the bank (possibly a stock one that i wont need to buy new jets and stuff for)?!?!? Thanks for all of your help, ill try takin it apart again and cleaning it.
~*edit* i took it apart and have the carb soaking in lacquer thiner along w/all the metal parts, i couldnt get the center needle out (not sure if thats the primary or what), ill try to get it out after it soaks for a while! We'll see where this goes, i checked and it is getting fuel up to the carb but i dont know why its not getting fuel in the carb to burn!!!~
Also where can i get a fuel shut off (fuel ****)?? Thanks for the help!!!

There is Breeze parts on Ebay all the time. Most are dirt cheap. I've seen carbs on there from time to time. I really think if you take your time and look at the carb real good you will find the problem. You might even want to hook up a hose in a can of gas to see how good the floats system works with the carb off of the quad. (A nick in the float pin??)
You might also want to do this with the carb on the quad.
Good luck and let us know what happens.

Got her to run guys!!! The needle valve assembly was all junked up from old gas!! As soon as i tore it apart (prolly just about ruined it getting it apart) but that fixed it. Put gas in the tank and ran her up and down the street at 11 PM!!! Runs great too!! But i would like to replace that needle valve assy. and probably get a fuel **** (no **** on it and it leaks around where it mounts to the tank). anyways....
1) where can i get UNI air filter oil or can i do what i read somewhere and use just 30W oil or 90W gear oil for it????
2) where can i get the needle valve assembly pretty cheap??
3) where can i get the fuel **** assembly???
4) how do i change the oil and what do i use and is there an oil filter???
5) The starter seems to grind every once-in-a while there is a little rust on the flex plate/flywheel can i clean that and expect it to work, i took the starter off and the gear on the end looks new (it is but i have been starting it a lot)!!!
I think thats all i need for her to run good!! Maybe some tuning but that will just come as i go!! I appreciate the help DOC and to anyone else that can give me a hand. Thanks i am deff. new to owning a ATV but i am just looking not to dump a bunch of money into a free one and have some fun!!! THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP GUYS YA'LL ARE GREAT!!!!

#4. Warm it up, pull the drain plug. No oil filter. Any good oil will do. For where I live 15/40 is perfect. I use Rotella T in mine; you don't have to. Like I said, ANY good oil will work. (PS) the engine oil and tranny oil are the same. Do not use gear lube in this quad!!!!!!!!!!!!)
#5. The starter deal. It's the one way bearing. Been there done that. Yours just might need cleaning. My springs were shot and the whole thing needed replacing. 50 or 60 bucks from Yahama. The one way is in back of the clutch on the belt side.
Glad I could help. Have fun and be safe. Be grateful too. I gave a grand for mine in not so great shape. Could not swing the free deal like you did!!!!!!

THANKS!!!! How much oil does it take and how do i change the tranny oil??? Is that One way bearing easy to do?? This thing just started making noise on a whim and it was working fine up until last night. Like i said the flywheel or whatever you call it has some rust on it and it seems like it only makes noise every once it a while (maybe at the rusty spot_)? Thanks for all the help doc i appreciate it!!!

I don't remember how much oil it takes. Like I said, the tranny oil and the engine oil are the same. They are one in the same.
About the one way bearing. You will need a impact screwdriver to get the case screws out. You will also need or should have an air gun to get the clutch off, because it's on the back side of the clutch.
Good luck. If you need more help you will have to find someone else for a while. I'm going on vacation for three weeks and don't even want to see a computer or race car!!!!
All in all the one way is not that bad to do.
