Rebuilding A Banshee Motor
#1
I'm looking into getting a banshee, but i need to know how much it's gonna cost to rebuild the engine. I"m not even sure how often you have to do it. I"ll take care of my quad so i've heard eight years, ten years, and i've also heard one year or two years. Also how much would it cost to rebuild it since it has two cylinders? and what would i have to replace on it, just for the normal rebuild? it wont be raced, it's just for trail riding and having fun with my friends.

A "basic" rebuild of a top end will cost you approx 150.00 for a top end kit(pistons, rings and gaskets) Expect to pay anywhere from 30-60.00 per cyl to have them bored. IF you leave your machine basicly stock (I dont mean pipes and small bolts ons) AND you maintain it.... then it will last you a long time...No one can give you a time since it all depends on how much you ride it and how well you maintain it!! When you start building a banshee to the extremes then reliability drops like a rock, If you wanna play w/ the big boys get ready to pay!
If the rebuild includes rebuilding a crank...... Expect to pay anywhere from 350+ for a new or rebuilt crank. and then approx 150+ to have someone split the cases and put it back together(if you cant do it yourself).
BUT the ONLY way your banshee will last inbetween rebuilds is to maintain it!!!
I think that about covers it

Well B370 hit it on the head with the maintenance. I rebuilt the motor in mine in March of 1998 and I just put rings in it, no pistons. Mine isn't stock, but it's not an alcohol burnin bad azz. Pipes, head, bored, ported, reeds, single carb, advanced timing, boost ports, and K&N. A few other things too. Just enough to give me a good edge. Then you turn right around and my dad maintains his very well, and he's rebuilt his countless times for one problem or another. When I rebuilt the motor in mine the time in March 1998 the factory 1993 pistons were still in it. Go figure.
