Default Smoking at release from high rev

I just purchased a 02 660 Raptor, it had been sitting for some time about 7 to 8 months without being run any. I had carbs cleaned and new battery and a k&n placed on it. We also checked the valves which where just off by a hair.

My question is what would be causing the quad to spit a small amount of smoke at the end of a high rev? It smells abit like burnt oil but its not smoking like the rings are bad. Is this the early sign of the rings going bad?

Thanks in advance

It is an early sign of bad rings. Mine was doing the same thing. I replaced the valve seals hoping it would be an easy fix, but it still smoked until I rebuilt the top end.

I was afraid of that. Anyone had to rebuild there top end on a 660 Raptor? About what kind of cost am I looking at?

Thanks

I was going to suggest that this is typically a sign of leaky valve stem seals, but the post above is worrysome.
