The manual calls for one to check the valve adjustment at the end of the first month. This seems a little early to me. Has anyone checked the clearances after a month of riding? If so were they out of spec.?

After only the first five hours of use I have already experience some valve chatter. Is this normal? I am still waiting for my factory manual for the specs to adjust them. What is the proper clearance for the valves? .020"? .030"? If you have the manual, please help me. Thanks.

The new engine needs the initial adjustment earlier. I adjusted mine after about 20 hours. A month of riding every day is definately too long for the first adjustment. I forget the adjustment specs, but can supply those later if needed.

How did you get a shop manual. I ordered mine in September and the shop keeps telling me there is no delivery date. I have tried a couple other yammy shops and the answer is the same. I would really like to get my hands on one. Any advice would be appreciated.

www.motocom.com. Got mine today. Expensive, though. Check it out.

So what do you think Scott, is it worth the $50.00 they ask for it? Is it a good comprehensive teardown manual?

Got mine today also. The price was $59.00 plus tax and shipping. The dealer wanted $63 plus or minus and did not know when they would get it. I ordered mine from www.motocom.com and also ordered a microfiche for $14.99. The manual came a lot sooner than I thought it would and I am glad it did. It is worth the $ to keep from going to the dealer for anything.

I just got my valve adjustment, but it wasn't at one month. I have used about 3 tanks/10 gallons of gas over the last 3 months and the last tank was when I started to notice the clatter. I figured the 10 "hours"/10 gallons usage was about right. My time was more or less split between a track and trails. I had one loose exhaust valve and everything else checked out OK. I would take it in at least once during the warranty period just to make sure. Realistically, how can the dealer help you with Yamaha if you have a problem later if you don't? The shop bill (oil change w/filter, valve adjustment, check clutch, adjust chain - the plastic was on when I took it in) was ~2.5 hours of labor and ~$125 including tax. After warranty (and one more trip to the dealer just to be sure), I will do all the work myself.
