Default Kodiak 400 Question

Hello all, new to the quad community and had a few newbi questions. First off I bought a used 04' Kodiak 400 2wd, and my first question is can you add any type of carb cleaner to your gas tank to help clean out carberator (sp?) If so brands?

My quad is ideling a little rough, goes strong when i open it up, but dies out sometimes when ideling. Any suggestions on this?

Thanks and hope to get some help

You might try Sea Foam.

Default Kodiak 400 Question

I just bought a used 2001 4x4 kodiak 400 and it has the same idle symptoms. It seems to spit out the exhaust while idling and will die after 15 or 20 seconds. I have tried carb cleaner in a few tanks of gas but I'm not sure it is any better. I't also seems to back fire slightly when coasting down hill. It doesn't really make any unusally loud valvetrain noises, no knocking or ticking, just a faint whine. I'm fairly new to ATV's, been riding dirtbikes all my life but this is my first real ATV.

Default Kodiak 400 Question

Help!!! I have a 1995 Kodiak 400 atv and my problem is it starts and idles great but when I try to accelerate it just cuts out. It runs great up to 1/4 of the throttle but after that it just cuts out. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Should I spray a carb cleaner in the carb while it is running?

Default Kodiak 400 Question

I had a similar problem to Kodiak 1995 and I recommend a spark plug first. If you have an actual plugged carb port problem cleaners don't help as there is no flow through that orfice. The best bet is to take the carb apart and dump out the dirt. I don't know of any year kodiak that had a fuel filter. And cleaners only work on gas caused deposits not dirt. Add an after market fuel filter.
