We used Motul 15w50 synthetic in our Banshee. Make sure the oil is suitable for use with a wet clutch. If it says ATV specific or Motorcycle specific it is ok to use. Or if you are using a car motor oil to avoid paying the extra cost of "ATV specific" marketing be sure that it does not have friction modifiers in the oil, because they can make the clutch slip.

Why would you run ATF?</end quote></div>
Because on a 2 stroke engine the crank and transmission are separated by seals. The oil mixed with the fuel lubricates your crank bearing, so the lubricant in the lower engine cases are really just doing the transmissin and clutch. I used to run ATF in some of my 2 strokes, but I didn't notice any difference. There were some local raceres here who swore by using the B&M Trickshift, but that stuff was $8 a quart!

you won't notice a difference between ATF and regular gear lube.. until you get into bigger power( 60+ HP) however.. some people swear by ATF and that it is the best stuff out there.. IMO i wouldn't run it in a trail quad.. also, ATF is liek $3 a quiart at advanced auto parts
