I just installed the complete Big Gun exhaust system (and it sounds GREAT by the way) and noticed that it gets HOT really fast! I didn't ride it or rev it past 1/4 throttle because it hasn't been rejetted yet, however I did let it idle for about 2-3 minutes and noticed the header started to glow red. Even with the ceramic coating it seemed awfully hot. Have any of you with the BG exhaust (or other brand) noticed this? Paul at Big Gun told me it will get really hot, I just didn't know how long it took.

Also, high temp silicone says it needs 24 hrs to be fully cured. Can the bike be warmed up right after the exhaust install, or should you wait 24 hrs before starting the bike to listen to it?

Thanks,
Bart

I don't know about the silicone, but it's normal for the header to glow red-hot when the choke is on. After being super-heated like that, the pipe takes on a bluish color.

when using any type of high temp silicone you should wait 24 hours before running it. However, it shouldn't hurt it if you let it run for a couple of minutes, but I would advise against doing that. You want to make sure that stuff is dry, because the last thing you want is an exhaust leak.

No2StrokeBs,

I should be getting it rejetted within a week. I just rode it a few minutes the day after I installed it to get a feel for the sound (I like it!!!). I will be going with the same jetting you have, since that was recommended by Big Gun. What's your elevation? Mine is around 500-600 feet.

Did you use the stock copper looking gaskets that were in the head and then put some high temp silicone on them? I did and I hope that was right. How long did you wait before you started it for the first time?

Thanks

In addition to main jetting of 150 / 155, Big Gun also requires jumping the pilot jetting from 22.5 to 27.5. This significantly helps your low to mid range response.

I just got back from riding mine at Glamis, runs great at sea level with 180/185 mains, 27.5 pilots, and the needle raised one. I have the complete BG system, with the airbox open and a pro-flow air filter. Lots of extra torque with the pipe, not as much hp as I was hoping for.
