98 Big Bear 4X4: need help w/ U Joint
#1
My 98 has a grease fitting on the front U joint but not the rear. Thought about drilling one of the rear bearing caps and installing a fitting. However, when looking at the joint I am not so sure there is a tunnel through the body for the grease to flow through. Does anyone here know??

Well I don't know about yours, but I do know that some U joints are not meant to be greased. It could be that one of them is not original equipment. Is it possible that the zerk fitting is missing? If it doesn't have a place to put a zerk in it, I wouldn't try to add one.

I appreciate the reply.
I looked all over the joint and no hole. I really do not want to yank the drive shaft to change joints but I also do not want to ruin what life it current one has either.

The original U joints are sealed and you do not grease them most replacement U joints have a fitting. I would not bother with it, but when the time comes get replacement parts with fittings if available.

How will the needle adaptor help? There are no fittings or holes.
The only reason I thought about drilling a hole is because it is done in automotive applications. Yes its sealed but I am afraid mud and water is getting in there plus they are most likely OEM.
