Default Big Bear 400 help.

On my quest to purchase an atv, I obtained my parents 2006(?) BB 400 2wd that has been rather neglected. It has about 850 miles on it. It has been ridden hard and put up wet, so to speak. I had just a couple of questions.

1. Where can I obtain an owners manual and repair manual?
2. How can I adjust the left and right hand brake. I pull the left one in all the way and it does NOTHING. The right hand brake BARELY activates the rear brake.
3. Best place to obtain rear brake light housing? This one is busted.
4. Best oil and filter to use? I don't even think it has been changed!!
5. Which spark plug does it require? I prefer NGK.
6. Best place to find winch and adapter plates/kit to bolt it up.
7. Best air filter replacement. The one in it has some tears in it.
8. Anything else I should clean/replace/lubricate/etc?

Thanks guys. I'm sure I'll be over here on the Yami side often since I have my new (to me) atv.

1. ebay or the dealership
2. The right side(if your sitting on the quad) should be the front brakes, if it is hydraulic it will be auto adjusting. The left side(sitting on it) is the rear brake and should be adjustable on the brake lever, you should be able to just unscrew the bigger silver ring and then screw in the smaller adjuster to tighten the brake cable. Then just screw the locking ring down to keep it from moving.
3. Check ebay or the dealership.
4. I use Yamalube from the dealership and a yamaha filter(if it is very dirty flush the oil first without changing the filter and warm the quad up and ride it for about 15 minutes then change it again.)
5.I use NGK as well and the dealership should have it for just about 2-3 dollars
6.I would look on ebay for the winch and plate to bolt it up with.
7. I use K&N air filters in everything.
8. Check the front and rear diff fluids, if they are milky or dirty replace them. I dont kknow if there are still very many grease zerts on the BB so check around and look close for them, if you find any grease them. Also you might pull off the tires and inspect the brake pads to make sure that you dont need to replace any of them.

Thanks for the help.

I was able to adjust the brakes, however, I tore the wings off one of the adjusters. Whoever thought of that wasn't the brightest. I'll take one I can get a wrench around any day. I guess I need to find a replacement. Where is the best place? Dealer?

I also changed out all the fluids. They weren't near as bad as I thought they were going to look. At least it didn't come out like tar.

I also replaced the plug and adjusted the carb. Now I just touch the start and she fires right up. No more fiddling with the choke and feathering the gas. Even after being left over night, she fires right up.

Once again, thanks for the help.

yhea dealership should be fairly cheap to get an adjuster nut, I replaced the ones on the handlebar one time and they were like 7.00 for the 2 pieces.

Glad you got it up and going without much trouble.
