Hey Guys, I just bought a New 2001 banshee and the first thing I did was put on FMF's new SST pipes. I must say the top end is awesome but there is absolutely no mid range or bottom end. The quad just sinks into the sand. I mostly ride in San Felipe Mexico which is trails, roads and sand dunes. I do plan on taking it to Glamis as well. I heard Paul Turner makes a good midrange pipe and toomey's are mostly top end pipes? Any suggestions? I must say I am very disappointed in the SST's I do not think they are good all around pipes. I also ordered new reeds and a boost bottle
but they dealer hasnt received them yet. Could this make the difference? My 440ex smoked the banshee in a 100 yard drag race.(uphill)

Was wondering if you rejeted the carbs after putting on the pipes? Also if this is your first banshee you have to revem out hard in the sand. And the stock tires will only spin. Get some paddles and try again. Not trying to pick a fight or nothing but a dumont dunes I can let the 400 get to the bottom of the hill before I go and still smokem to the top. Maybe the 440 would change that. I have the turner mids and want more top for the dunes. The turners seem to just die if I don't short shift and keep it in the band. I love them at the mx track, don't have to shift as much and the power is always there.

440exfanatic:

Do not take this wrong....If this is the first time you have ridden a banshee. It can be a handful to unleash the bottom to midrange on a banshee. It requires almost a "def touch" with the clutch and throttle in order to make the beast produce power down low.
But it is possible... Make sure you have jetted properly for the new pipes and any other mods you might be considering. The reeds will help to wake up the throttle response...A noticable difference from a boost bottle is marginal but can't hurt.

Good luck with the banshee..I think you will find that it is a more than capable machine for alot of different riding styles.

If you have had experience with the banshee...then you already know the drill...and anything I mentioned above you know all about.

440EX if you make a trip to Glamis I'll meet you there and let you take my Fatty/Power Core 2 Banshee out for a spin. If you want to trade me pipes I'll do so straight up. From my experience between stock and the Fatty's you can put around much easier with the Fatty's compaired to the stockers.

You have something seriously wrong with your setup here. You might want to make sure you have - 320 mains, no airbox lid with a proflow filter and some boyesen reeds. Throw that boost bottle away, they are meant for bottom end, and will suck top end out of your banshee. And... you have a banshee and are expecting bottom end??? hello??? I rode my friends banshee with sst's and it's got a wider powerband than mine with T-5's. It's actually deceiving how fast it is. It also comes on the pipe sooner that my pipes do.

i'm wondering about paul turner midrange pipes. how much low/midrange do you gain? do you lose any of the hit from the powerband? i do a lot of trail riding, but also some faster open trails and gravel pits. i don't want to lose much top end, but i want something easier to "putt with" in the trails so i don't need to clutch it as much. what do you guys think of these pipes? any opinions are appreciated. thanks

Alba racing says the SST's pipes are good for stock banshee engines, but for modified motors they say they produce to much back pressure, and would rather use the fattys instead.

They where in the chat room over at *********, and you can head on over there to read all the rest.

Sandman:
Could you give a bit more insight on why you feel a boost bottle would make you loose top end?

Scrapheap, I have paul turner mids on my quad and toomeys on my sons. The turner pipe comes in a lot lower and smoother. Much eaiser to ride trails, but the top end is about like stock. Still does OK in a sand hill race you just have to short shift it. Also it will pull a taller gear.
