retrofitting a pullstart on a wolverine
#1
going out in the woods solo with just a battery, can sometimes put you in a hgairy situation when you can't jumpstart by towing or rolling down a hill.
I want to install a pullstart on my bike. I am thinking that all I need is the recoil assembly, gasket and stator cover to replace my bikes one piece cover.
I am not sure if I am looking for the right parts or much less what year big bears or warriors to look at. obviously wolv parts will fit, but they are more scarce. I have seen some things on ebay but not sure what I need so I can't bid/look elsewhere.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
If someone with a '95 or 00 wolv wants to swap covers just say so.
Thanks

the wolverine was made with a pull start...you might be able to just get a oem part for it, check the case part #'s on your year and like a 03, if they match you Should be able to just use that pull start

did a little research...your 'case 3' is part # 4KB-15431-01-00 and mine is 4WU-15431-00-00 so appearantly they are diff. numbers but the recoil pull from the 03 or w/e might still fit, try asking a yamaha rep?

Look under Just arrived 97 350 Big Bear at this site
http://www.atvsalvage.com/used.htm
According to them they state.
<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Engine side cover with recoil assy and bolts. $250.00 (This will also convert a Wolverine to pull start setup.)</end quote></div>

Ive been doing that. I am am trying to find used parts.
does any body know the specifics of parts interchanging. ie: the part numbers are the same EXCEPT for the first three characters.
example:
4WU-15411-01-00
4KB-15411-01-00

Ive been on the phone all day with dealers and a few were helpful but could not give me an answer and one would not even discuss looking for parts for this mod.
After all he microfishe research I did the other day and today here is what I have:
the stators and recoil (pull start) assembly for a 1999 big bear and 2000 and 2001 wolverine are the same. the elec plugs of this stator are correct for a 97 wiring harness.
the 97 wolverine 99 big bear and 00 an 01 wolverine all use the same stator cover gasket.
They all use the same plastic crankcase cover over the gear shifter.
HOWEVER The 99 big bear and the 00/01 wolverine use different stator covers as listed in the previous post.
help...........
