99 Grizzly smoking
#1
I have a 1999 grizzly that just recently started smoking..i started it one day and it just poured out blue smoke...it seems to clear up after a few minutes but if u let it sit for a few hours or especially overnight, it smokes pretty bad. Does anyone have any idea wut could be wrong. i just got it and havnt rode it much, i changed the oil, filter, front and rear gear oil, and air filter. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Most likely your rings are bad. Did you ever run it without the airfilter. I bought an 87 Mojave 110 for my son that did the exact same thing. When i looked in the airbox, the filter was missing. I changed out the piston and rings and had the cylinder machined. Runs like new now.

no i havnt had it that long, but it had a filter in it when i got it, and i also replaced it with a new one when i got it. i was also thinking it was probably the rings or valve seals or something like that...do u have any idea about how much money i'm lookin at if i do wut u did..(rings, piston, ect.)

I think I paid about $100 for the piston and rings. The machining was about $60, and the gasket kit was about $45. So you are looking at atleast $200.
I thought mine could have been the valve seals also, but I spoke with a mechanic at my local shop, and he said there is not enough oil in the head to cause it to smoke like that. All of the oil drains out pretty fast.
If you do decide to replace the rings and piston, have the cylinder machined first so you know what oversized piston and rings you will need.
I ordered the parts first. I got lucky that mine only need 1st oversize.

Thats why I would take it to the machine shop first. They would be able to tell you better. They could probably look at it and tell you. If they just cleaned up the walls, you could probably just keep your piston and just replace the rings.
