Default ATV battery problems

I have a '02 Grizzly 660 that I use mainly for hunting. I use it primarily in northern Minnesota where temps are below freezing usually all winter. When hunting, I need to leave ATV outside (usually covered) but don't have a power source to charge at night. Usually parked out in middle of woods at a cabin. I have problems with batteries freezing and I've been stuck in woods relying on friends to get out to get another battery. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep a battery from freezing when you don't have a power source to hook into?

Ive seen solar powered battery chargers, it keeps a trickle charge going as long as the sun is shining. But you might want to have the battery load tested, sounds like its shot.

AS LONG AS IT IS FULLY CHARGED IT SHOULDN'T FREEZE UP...YOU CAN ALWAYS PACK SOME INSULATION AROUND IT

It sounds like the battery is shot, I do the same thing with mine and no problems, I think ATV batteries are similar car batteries you can only expect to get 4 to 5 years before replacement.

It would be a pain but you could always remove the battery when you park and take it into the building with you.

Volkswagen cars come with small solar chargers that plug directly into the 12v cigarette lighter plug that are basically small trickle chargers to keep the batteries from dying while the cars are in transit to the dealerships.

I don't condone this type of thing, but I have a few buddies who went and test drove the cars just to snag one of the chargers. After the car is PDI'd (pre delivery inspection), a lot of the techs just throw the chargers in the trunk...it isn't listed anywhere on the invoice, so nobody will know its gone.

I worked at VW dealership while I was in highschool, and I saw quite a few of these things disappear....I think everybody who worked at the dealership had at least one. I ended up buying one from one of my buddies who worked there after I quit...it works well.

One of those would work perfect in your situation. If you don't have a 12v outlet on your quad, you could just clip the wires from the plug and add some alligator clip ends so you could clip it directly do your battery.
