The Big Bear once had a low range than Yamaha quit making it and just said they put a low 1st gear in it instead to make up for a low range. Cost savings was more like it.
The older Big Bears had a low range so you had a low 1st,2nd,3nd,4th and 5th gear then you shifted to high and when through all the gears once more.
Much more serous set up than a super low 1st gear and thats it.

I,ve got a 87 moto 4 champ 100cc. My neighbor had set it out on the curb with a free sign on it. I have managed to get it started but it does not go into gear. I have yet to go any furhther. It seems to be going into gear just not getting any power transfer to the rear, I can feel something clunking in the rear. I quess it's time to pull it apart. Anybody had this issue, I'm not a real ATV guy I spend more time at the local Drag way with my car. But for free what the heck, I was suprized to see it is shaft driven. do the shafts have shear pins? Any help would be appreciated!

I still have my 87 Moto 4 YFM225, first ATV I owned. It has taken years of hard use and never been in the shop. I have a Grizzly 700 now and only use the 225 as a backup for hunting and kids, grandkids; never will get rid of it.

I had a 87 250 Moto4 and it even had a low range option on the tranny. Never would think a 2wd 250 would get a low range. They had a 250 sticker not a 225 in Canada.
