Does the 250 have a reverse gear? And how is the acceleration/throttle response. I am riding a honda 300ex right now and was thinking that the raptor 250 would be a little better performing and more fun. I am I on the right track? The 300 is 377 pounds and the 250 is 313.. does anyone know any problems with the raptor 250? Thanks

 

The 250 does not come with a reverse gear. Yamaha did this to keep the weight and price down.

 

My cpuzin has a 250 raptor. I don't know two much about sport bikes, but after riding his 250 i wanted one. It doesnt have a reverse, but the front end is so lite you can easiley pick it up and turn it around. I loved how the 250 would do a wheelie in fourth gear.

 

The Raptor 250 is faster and has better throttle response than the 300EX. It is also very light and good handling. But, ... if it were me and I were growing bored with a 300cc sport quad I wouuld move up to a 400cc sport quad, and not down to a 250cc sport quad. A 400EX might be just what you're looking for.

I agree with desertviper........the 250 will not be a big improvement over the 300EX. Also the 250 is a little on the small side so if you are a growing boy you may outgrow it soon.

 

actually, dirt wheels did a comparison article between the 300ex and raptor 250 a few months back. If I remember correctly, the 250 raptor won over the 300ex in pretty much every catagory.

The reason I am looking at the 250 is because there is a nice track and set of trails about an hour away that you do have to pay for, but you have to ride a 250 or under if you are under 16 . And I am 15.. So I dont know if i just want to not ride much for a year and keep the 300 or what.. If I didnt get the Raptor I would end up not getting anything, because I have to save my money for a car. Nice to hear the raptor is fast. Thanks again

 

Well in that case, if you can afford it get the Raptor 250. The ATV should hold its resale value pretty well, and when you're 16 you can get a bigger sport quad if you feel the need for one. By that time you may even want to skip the 400cc class altogether, and go straight to a 450.

Do they check for ID at the trails? I used to go to the MX track(Had to be 18 to ride without parents) with a couple of friends when we were 16 and 17. We couldnt get any of our parents to come, so we would just sign up on the adult form and ride on the track. It is a naughty idea, but hey, it works!

I dont think that they do check for ID, I think ill go up there and see if i can pass for 16. You still have to wear a chest protector, and a permission slip from both parents..? Which is ok I guess. I still want a better bike though. What is a good place to start upgrading a bike?
