you know if the '07 grizzly 700 has a fuel filter from the factory or not? if it does can you tell me where it is?

 

the fuel filter may be located at the bottom of the fuel tank. somewhat like a dirtbikes filter. there is one somewhere. i looked on a parts fishe but was able to find it. they had no listing for a 07 grizz 700fi.
i would suspect it to be an electrical issue. as mentioned earlier, change the spark plug. the insulator could have become cracked from a rapid cool down(water induced) be sure the cap is on firmly. next, look at and check for moisture at all electrical connections and relays under the the top access panel foward of the handle bars.

 

i'll try that and report back and see what i can find out. thanks for the input.

 

Pull the plastic off the top, and the right side... (exposing the right side of the upper part of the gas tank) Check the breather and roll-over valve to make sure it's not clogged. dont see anything obvious. throttle body is all clean. looks like all the fuel delivery system is clean. it will rev out if you pin the throttle and sounds pretty good up top and kinda backfires a lil bit and if you let off the throttle and let it get back down to idle it runs rough. he thinks the timing is off one tooth, would this cause this particular problem? any input is greatly appreciated.

 

So it revs fine if it's not in gear, but when you put it in gear and drive it, it gets choppy?

 

only tried it in neutral. what effect does putting it in gear have?

 

My buddy once had an issue where it would rev just fine in neutral, but in gear, backwards or forwards, it was hitting the rev-limiter real fast... Coughing out... Turned out the belt housing was so packed with mud that it couldn't shift, and because of that the limiter was kicking in... I'm just trying to get a feel for exactly what is happening your buddy's quad...

 

Hebs is right... the same thing happened to me while riding with my brother-in-law on his 700. I think you need to service the clutch. I explained it in another thread, where you remove the case on the right side and remove the primary drive clutch cover.

Then remove all the silt and muck that has accumulated around the weights, after removing the majority manually we let the bike idle without the cover on the clutch and kept spraying penetrating oil into the rotating clutch weights.

Keep in mind we aren't mechanics but when you are a couple of hours away from any shop and all you have is a ratchet set and some ambition to ride... small problems won't stop you.

I just sounds like you have the same problem... "Early engagement of the rev limiter, and very low top speed." Both characteristics of mud in the clutch.

 

change of story, lol. if you give it gas to start it and dont let it idle and just pin the throttle, it will rev out (in neutral). no idea what it does in gear. but if you let off the throttle and let it get back to what "idle" should be it will not idle and just dies. still sound like a clutch problem?
