Need Help Quick Guys
#2
It is a direct swap. From '90-04 they were all the same. The wiring harness is different and the stator changed, so you will probably need the stator and the wiring harness from the '04, or keep the '97 stator and wiring harness and install it on the '04 motor.

OK, i was thinking that was the case, but wasn't sure. I have a 98 and it broke the rod completely off, and fell in the crank and basically made a mess of the bottom end. I can pick up an 04 motor for less than what a crank will cost me, so I think that will be the way to go. So I will have the stator and the wiring harness from the 98, but only the motor from the 04 no wring harness. Seems like a reasonably easy swap. Oh and Thanks for the quick reply.

OK, now I have another question, motor came in and i went to swap the stators and the plugs are identical, and so is the wiring color coding, so is the motor not an 04? How do I tell or are the stators still different?

Should be the same then. I don't know exactly what years were different. Maybe the early 90's are different from the later models.
