Grizzly 450 Recoil Starter on a Wolverine 450?
It would appear that the engines are basically the same, so is it possible to fit a recoil starter from the grizzly over to the wolverine? Everything but the pull start assembly is identical and would run about $105 for all the parts. Anybody done it? I know the topic has been touched on, but I couldn't find anything definitive. Thanks...SC

Grizzly 450 Recoil Starter on a Wolverine 450?
I'm not sure, but that is a good idea. The pull start on my bruin has saved me more than once, and I would love to have that back up on my wolvy also. If you try it, definitely let us know...I would bet that most people would like to have this option too.

Grizzly 450 Recoil Starter on a Wolverine 450?
After looking at the diagrams and the procedures for getting into the starter/magneto, it appears Yamaha simply pulled the starter pulley and recoil assembly from the 421cc engine and put in what they call a "starter boss" in the hole that was left. Then they just slapped a cover over the top of it and called it a wolverine engine. All the tolerances, torques, bolt positions and related panels remain the same. It should be a direct bolt-on application. I'm looking forward to putting this on. I will take pics if need be, but I don't think that'll be necessary since there are only two parts to put in...SC

Grizzly 450 Recoil Starter on a Wolverine 450?
I just got the parts in today and installed the recoil starter from a Kodiak/Grizzly on my '07 Wolverine. I would've posted pics but A: My wife is out of town and has the camera, and B: it isn't complicated enough to really warrant pics, the manual is plenty detailed enough. Installation was a 30 minute operation, only due to the fact that I had break up fights between my kids throughout the whole thing. I'd give it 1 wrench on the 5 wrench difficulty scale. You'll need an 8mm socket, 17mm socket, crescent wrench or vise grips, and something to pull the little O-ring out of the collar when you replace it with the starter pulley, p/n 1UY-15723-00-00. The recoil assembly, p/n 5UH-15710-00-00, comes fully assembled and just bolts in place of the old cover. You will need to order 4 of the shorter bolts, p/n 90110-06037-00, from the Kodiak/Grizzly to mount the recoil starter properly, something I didn't realize. For now, I took the spacers out of the plain cover and used them so the cover bolts don't bottom out. I'll be ordering the shorties in the future. The hardest part about the whole thing is trying to pull start it after it's all together...Holy Shiznit!!! Both of my shoulders are killing me now, but I did it. I'm glad it's only a backup...SC
