Raptor Starter problem HELP.....

Default Raptor Starter problem HELP.....

I have just recently had a problem with the starter and my Raptor, it will sometimes just spin free and after a few tries it with kick in and turn the motor or sometimes work just fine. I was wondering if any others have had this happen????Thanks..

Default Raptor Starter problem HELP.....

That's a common problem on the 660's and it's caused by a faulty starter clutch. It's under $200.00 for a new starter clutch and hub. If you don't fix it it will stop starting someday (soon) and thay aren't much fun the catch in gear[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-mad.gif[/img]

By starter cluch you mean the one way bearing? and how hard is it to change?

Default Raptor Starter problem HELP.....

Yes the starter clutch and the one way bearing are the same thing.(it's called the one way starter clutch in the yamaha service manual) It's located under the left side cover (left as you sit on the quad) the hardest part of the job is getting the magneto rotor off of the shaft, for this you will need a puller. After that the rest is cake.
The starter clutch bolts tighten to 11 ft lb and the magneto rotor nut to 110 ft lb side cover bolts to 7.2 ft lb
