Default Yamaha Warrior: oil in air box

my friend just bought a 96 warrior, after riding it today, we noticed fresh oil in and a little on top of the air box....what could this be? it was not flipped.

You sure that it's not oil from the foam air filter? The stock air filter on the Warrior has a foam element around the mesh filter that should be coated with oil to help it collect dust. If you look under the air box, you should actually see a clear cap that collects any oil that may drain off of the filter.

Either filter oil, or you have oil coming in through the crankcase breather. Usually when oil is coming through the breather it's because the oil is overfilled.

Up and down steep hill riding can also do it, not just a roll over.

I've never seen oil in my airbox from riding up a hill... only time I ever saw it in the 4 years i've had my warrior was when it was just from over-oiling the filter.
