Default warrior help

ok here's the deal, i just repacked my WB e-series. it sounds way better than before. but i read that you can reduce the sound level a bit by removing discs, so i did. the sound is to my liking now. i'm running 8 discs with the spark arrester but now i think it's running to rich but i'm not sure????

When i have the choke on it will run beatiful. but once i turn the choke off it dies. also when i start it with the choke off it will only stay running if i hold the gas in a little bit, (not even close to half throttle). if i try to give it more gas fast or slow it will die, and if i let off the gas all together it will also die. i think i'm way too rich but i'm not sure.

could i be lean on the pilot jet??? i'm running a 150 main and a stock pilot 42 i think. any help would be great.

-thanx

The choke richens it up, so you don't seem to be rich. I also am running a 150 main (with the e-clip in the 4th position) in my Warrior with a full intake/exhaust system, ported and polished, bored over, web camshaft, so on and so forth; so you should be fine there, as thats not much over a stock jet anyway (145). If anything it sounds lean; make sure you have everything back tight and aren't leaking exhaust.

i shouldn't be, not unless i need a new head pipe gasket where the pipe goes into the cylinder head. but last time i checked i didn't feel any air comming out of there. also i read somewhere that you can have an exhaust leak where the slip-on connects to the head pipe. i noticed today that there was smoke coming from where they connect. maybe that's my problem???

my clip is in the 3rd position. should i lower the clip to raise the needle or will that have no effect??? also i did notice that the 2nd time i tried to start it it popped and backfired. i guess that means i am lean....? also i was running 12 discs with a quite core before i repacked it and it was running lean then too. so i changed my fuel screw to 3 turns out and it was rich. then i turned it to 2 1/5 turns out repacked the muffler and started running with 8 discs and the spark arrester instead of the quite core. i read that removing some discs will enrichen the mixture. this is where i stand now???????????

i dunno what's going on with damn thing. i can't get it to run right to save my life lol.

Its definately lean. Honestly I can't see removing a few discs making so much of a difference as to making it not even run. It really sounds like you've just got an exhaust leak somewhere. You shouldn't be blowing smoke out of the connection between the headpipe/tail pipe, and that will affect things, so I would take care of that and go from there. Fix all the small things first and if that doesn't fix it then there may be a bigger problem.

If it only runs with the choke on then it's lean. I don't understand the black plug, but you can't use an old plug to do a plug test, you have to start with a new one. I'm with Beefy, I don't see how removing a few discs could make it so lean it wouldn't run. I also don't see how a small exhaust leak at the muffler connection could affect it that much. Hell, I've ran mine with NO muffler, and one time my muffler split wide open right at the curve near the head and it still ran fine. I think you have some trash in your carb or something else going on with the carb and it's just a coincedence it started happening when you repacked your muffler.

well it's been running lean this whole winter but not to the point where it would not run unless the choke was on. every time i open up my carb it's spotless. jets and all. i dunno what to do. i'm afraid to take it to the shop because i know it will cost me an arm and a leg. (with my luck). do you have any ideas on what i can do???????

also forgot to add it is an old plug. i figured i could just clean it and keep using the same plug but i guess not lol.

I agree with Raptor about not seeing how just a small leak could cause this big an issue. Go grab a new plug (NGK D8EA) from AutoZone and gap it (between .024 and .028 IIRC) and put it in, and see where that gets you. Take the carb off and clean it up really well, make sure your main and pilot jets are not plugged at all, it only takes the slightest amount of debris to screw things over. It almost sounds like you've developed a leak in the intake and may be sucking in air, perhaps. Make sure your intake manifold (boot from carb to head) is in good condition, as it is prone to cracking in the middle from time to time, and be sure the carb is tight, and the airbox is fully connected to the carb.
