Max speed = 40 MPH
Here is a little background of the bike specs and what I have done already.
2003 Kodiak 400 4x4
25" 12.5x12 Bear Claws on the back.
25" 8x12 Bear Claws on the front.
Big Gun exhaust
2000# Superwinch
I have cleaned and redressed the air filter with K&N recharging kit.
Cleaned and regreased the out sheave and clutch weights.
The belt is brand new
New battery - (only because the old one was dead)
So my question is, is this the fastest this quad will go given its current setup? A buddy of mine has an 05 400 and says he tops out just a little over 50 MPH and I have read other post stating the same.
Thanks,
Forrest

Somethings wrong, even my old 89 350 4x4 Big Bear could do 40mph easily. Your Kodiak has the 401cc motor right? Not the older air cooled 386cc Big Bear motor? Try Changing the belt, I was tied in top end with my cousin's 500 Scrambler but once he change the belt he could walk right pass me.

The belt is brand new. The motor sounds strong and not like its slipping at anytime.</end quote></div>
Did you re-jet after putting on the pipe? I know my wolverine was lean from the factory and just pulling the spark arrestor and putting in a high flow filter leaned it way out.

Well, you just about nailed my main question right on the head about the re-jetting after the pipe was put on. I bought this quad used and the pipe was already installed so I cant confirm if that was ever done. I have tried to do some research on this pipe and read in some posts that they state that no re-jetting is needed.

Most ATVs are fairly lean from the factory and adding something like a pipe or high flow filter would make it even more lean.</end quote></div>
Lean is bad or good?</end quote></div>
Lean means less fuel is getting to the motor than it should be.
