removing bent axle on Raptor
#1
alright so a friend of mine bent that crap out of his raptors axle on the left side. he has a new one on order but in the mean time any hints on how to remove the bent one?
Service manual is pretty "primative" as to what needs to be removed. Can the axle be removed without taking anything else off like the disc brake system and/or the chain sprocket?
Also the manual states something about putting the lock nuts back to a certain spec. is it that crutical??

One side will have to come off, then you'll have to pull the other side off to swap it to the new axle, yeah theres probably a torque spec for the lock nut and its definatly important to get it back to spec.

What kind of Raptor? 250,350,660,700................................... .................................................. ................? If it is a 660, remove the big axle nuts (make sure you loosen the allen head set-screw on the axle nuts). Remove the wheel hubs, take the brake caliper off, and beat the axle out from the right side. Don't beat right on the end of the axle, take a deep-well socket or piece of pipe and slip over the axle splines and hit that to protect the hub bolt threads. The axle will slip through the brake rotor and sprocket hub. If the axle is bent real bad, it may have to be straightened some to make it thru the bearing carrier. And don't forget to install new bearings and seals ($40).
If it is a Raptor 350, the axle will come out from the left side.

it's an '05 660. it's bent on the left side so it should slide straight out.
do I need to loosen the 2 top screws and lock nuts too?? Are those the chain tension screws??
I guess he hasn't ordered a new one yet and was wonderin whats a good aftermarket axle? I read that the g-force axle was pretty durable and not too expensive at around $200.
